aesthetics really do matter when it

comes to the purchasing power of your

i tried making paper with zero

experience from things that i found at

the dollar store you're supposed to use

a

window screen for this but i didn't have

any of that so i found these screens at

the dollar store uh they kept stabbing

me and cutting me and they weren't big

enough so i had to use two uh do not

recommend using this material for

absolutely anything it was

terrible and then i uh blended that up

and it looked like literal vomit

um and i'm an idiot so i didn't check if

the frame was the right size for the

bucket it was not

um so i put it in a new bucket and the

uh the screen

it didn't work don't don't don't try

that it doesn't work so i'd go back i i

thought i'd go back to my roots and use

just like some fabric and hot glue and

that actually worked really well and

then i dried that all out and it turned

out pretty well and i cut it and i'm

gonna make it into a book

all right business owners show us where

the way we were starting off at one

point so let's show them in the right

direction show them where you get your

packaging stuff from and show some love

we wanted a sustainable way that

customers could take away our stickers

at our market stall so we got some of

these craft bags from kite packaging it

comes in a pack of a thousand

we wanted to add some branding to the

bags so we're using our stamp that we

created with a small business on etsy

called paper sessions and we're going to

stamp all of the bags with our logo

this is an easy and simple way for us to

add a little bit of branding to our

packaging while still being sustainable

studies show that there are four types

of emotionally compelling content that

consumers search for in a product or

brand is it funny useful beautiful or

inspiring and if you can incorporate

these elements into your designs you're

already well on your way to making an

impact that will leave users wanting to

take your product home with them

with a worldwide focus on global warming

there are a lot of ways we can all make

changes to help reduce greenhouse gases

depending on your industry there are

already a number of sustainable

packaging options available on the

market and as e-commerce continues to be

one of the fastest growing industries in

the world businesses are striving to

protect the products that they're

selling and they resort to piling on

packaging which most of it will go

straight to the landfill so it's really

important to practice eco-friendly

packaging such as biogradeable plastic

natural fibers papers or reusable

envelopes or creative reusable packaging

the main point would be to minimize

waste and prioritize reusable and

recyclable materials with fewer toxins

so i always get a lot of questions on

where i buy all my packaging today i'm

going to show you i buy my foot tools

for commerce and vans boxes from sequoia

packaging in los angeles my little

booklets and postcards are from vision

one print solutions my dream big mailer

boxes are from garrett graphics in

ventura california my filler soul

stickers are from stand out stickers

which are the best i use the munbin

thermal labor printer which works

amazing the best place to buy

eco-friendly poly mailers is from eco

and clothes in san francisco and my

packaging tape is from no issue

here are my business supplies and where

i get them business cards are from

vistaprint cardholder is the brand

poppin thank you cards are also

vistaprint washi tape is amazon and the

dispenser too the packaging stickers are

homemade stamps are from usps.com and

self-seal envelopes are from amazon

what you should and should not brand for

your small business so you must brand

the immediate packaging that your

product will go in so i brand all my

jewelry boxes with

a stamp from rubberstamps.com and

solvent ink

this is the best ink because it sticks

to almost any surface

and then you want to brand some sticker

or memento that your customer can keep

after they unpackage their order

business card or thank you card and

since my jewelry boxes are branded i

didn't brand these black dust bags this

dust bag specifically is for the rework

collection so it's a little bit

different

and now for tissue paper

don't invest in this if you don't have

the money because your customers would

throw it straight in the trash once they

unwrap their order it just doesn't make

sense only to if you have the money

since i sell jewelry i don't want to

attract any thieves so don't bring your

poly mailers if you have something that

is likely to get stolen

lastly i brand my mailer boxes because i

want people to see my branding right

when they start to open their package so

i wanted to come on here and show you

guys a few of the diy things that i'm

doing for my packaging for my brand i

think that it is especially important

with small brands just to kind of set

yourself apart

and i think it's you know all in the

very small detail so for my boxes i know

this might be a little bit time

consuming but i'm definitely willing to

do it just to you know set myself apart

from other brands i'm actually using

this embossing powder with a custom

stamp that i had made from zazzle

and you put this powder on it and then

you use a heat gun and you heat it up

and it turns to like this gold foil like

metallic looking

i don't even know it's so cool as you

guys can see here i love doing it it's

so satisfying so i will be doing these

to all of my boxes but i just wanted to

share this with you guys in case you

wanted

your boxes to stand out but didn't know
